Information for Mentors and ASL Coaches

(Click here to view the original English version of “A Journey” by Nikki Giovanni.)

The Graduation to Certification program is looking for mentors and language coaches who can accompany our program participants (apprentices) on their journey in developing language and interpreting skills.   Our ASL coaches will also provide assistance in designing an appropriate service learning project in the local Deaf community of each participant.  We will provide technical support to provide mentoring services via distance as we don’t know where the participants will live.  Additionally, we are seeking a diverse group of mentors and language coaches to model the benefits of diversity in our profession.

Mentors and language coaches need training and supervision, and we will offer both at no charge.  Mentors and coaches will have access to an online repository of professional development activities that can be used with GTC participants and other novice interpreters.  Those resources are currently in development.

We hope you are interested.  If you would like to be on our mailing list, please fill out our contact form so that we can share information with you as we develop the program and build our network of mentors and coaches.
